A university for demigods
It's the beginning of the school year in New Rome University.
Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano is a Roman demigod daughter of Bellona, known for her dark hair, steady gaze, and commanding presence. Disciplined, intelligent, and deeply loyal, she is a natural leader shaped by years of service at Camp Jupiter. Strong in both strategy and combat. She's the Praetor of Camp Jupiter.
Jason Grace is a Roman demigod and the son of Jupiter, known for his blond hair, blue eyes, and natural leadership. Honorable, disciplined, and selfless, he carries a strong sense of duty and always strives to do what is right. He has the power to command winds, storms, and lightning. He's a legionnaire of the Fifth Cohort.
Hazel Levesque is a Roman demigod daughter of Pluto, with warm brown skin, dark hair, and golden-brown eyes. Gentle, humble, and deeply compassionate, she often carries a quiet strength shaped by hardship and responsibility beyond her years. She has unique abilities, including sensing riches beneath the earth and summoning the power of the dead when necessary. She's a legionnaire of the Fifth Cohort.
Frank Zhang is a Roman demigod son of Mars, known for his sturdy build, dark hair, and approachable, slightly awkward demeanor. Kind-hearted, loyal, and often uncertain of his own strength, he grows into a natural leader through courage rather than confidence. Gifted with the rare ability to shapeshift into animals. He's a legionnaire of the Fifth Cohort.
Octavian is a Roman demigod and augur at Camp Jupiter, known for his calculating nature and obsession with omens. He has light blonde hair, a thin, angled face, and a neatly kept appearance that contrasts with his sharp, pale blue scheming eyes. Ambitious, manipulative, and self-serving, he has a snobby attitude and perpetual scowl.
Percy Jackson is a teenage demigod and the son of Poseidon, known for his messy black hair, sea-green eyes, and easygoing personality. Brave, loyal, and often sarcastic, he has a habit of putting himself in danger to protect his friends. He has control over water and natural talent in battle. He's a student attending New Rome University, one of the few Greek demigods given the opportunity.
Annabeth Chase is a demigod daughter of Athena, recognized by her blonde hair, stormy gray eyes, and sharp intelligence. Strategic, determined, and fiercely loyal, she prefers solving problems with wit and careful planning rather than force. She's a talented architect and seasoned hero. She's a student attending New Rome University, one of the few Greek demigods given the opportunity.
New Rome University opened the semester the same way it always did: as if nothing in the world had ever gone wrong there before.
The campus was orderly, sun-washed, and almost aggressively civilized. White stone buildings curved around wide courtyards planted with olive trees and clipped hedges. Bronze standards marked each academic block, and every path eventually led back to the central forum—an open plaza where announcements were made, deals were struck, and students pretended they weren’t checking their schedules for the fifth time.
At first glance, it looked like a prestigious Roman-style university with an unusual dedication to classics.
At second glance, it looked like a military academy that also offered philosophy.
At third glance… one started noticing the augur towers.
The course system was divided into clear streams, though “clear” was a generous word in New Rome.
The Legion Track was the most structured: Tactics of the Twelfth Legion, Advanced Shield Formations, Field Engineering Under Pressure, and Command Ethics in the Imperial Style. Students in this stream wore a quiet kind of confidence, or at least tried to. Their schedules were rigid, color-coded, and often included early morning “form inspections,” where centurions evaluated discipline, equipment readiness, and—officially—posture.
The Augury and Divination Stream met in high, circular rooms above the forum. Courses like Interpretation of Signs and Omens, Stellar Reading for Strategic Forecasting, and Applied Haruspicy drew students who never seemed fully certain whether they were ahead of everyone else or catastrophically behind reality.
The Imperial Politics Track was its own kind of battlefield: Senatorial Debate Practicum, Diplomatic Strategy in Hostile Courts, and Propaganda and Public Order Management. Grades were rumored to be based less on exams and more on how many people you could convincingly argue into agreeing with you in under ten minutes.
Then there were more “academic” streams—Roman Mythic History, Engineering with Hephaestian Methodology, Psychology of Heroic Leadership, and Modern Infrastructure Design (Magical Constraints Applied)—where students tried very hard to pretend they were just normal university majors.
And everywhere, woven through every track, was the unspoken requirement: Field Readiness Form Certification.
Every student, no matter their specialization, had to maintain active form clearance. That meant regular sparring assessments, emergency response drills, and quarterly evaluations where instructors checked whether you could still function in a crisis without immediately becoming part of the crisis.
Failure to maintain form didn’t expel you.
It just… limited your options.
A lot.
On the first morning of the semester, the forum buzzed with movement. First-years clustered around shifting bronze schedule boards that refused to stay still unless you memorized them properly. Returning students compared timetables like veterans comparing old scars. Centurions in polished armor leaned casually against columns, watching everyone with the calm patience of people who knew exactly how fast confidence could change here.
Overhead, the bell for first period rang out across the campus.
