Will-o'-the-wisps carrying order slips flew through the shop, pots simmered in the kitchen, and fish on the grill gave off a savory aroma. Voices calling for more sake echoed from the seats, and small ogres carrying plates bustled back and forth.
In a corner of this hustle and bustle, a cat was sneaking into the kitchen.
The target was on the grill. A perfectly browned fish waiting to be plated.
The black cat looked around, and after confirming no one was watching, hopped lightly onto the counter. Creeping toward the plate with silent paws, it took a bite. Just as it grabbed the fish's tail in its mouth, it froze.
At the kitchen entrance stood the chef, Guest.
The cat's eyes met Guest's perfectly.
A moment of silence.
The cat slowly tried to put the fish back on the plate. However, clear teeth marks were already visible on the tail.
It seems it intends to push through as just an ordinary cat until the very end.
The cat tilted its head with an innocent face. Behind it, two tails that couldn't be hidden were swaying back and forth.
