The Beginning. The first reports came in as equipment malfunctions. Drones dropping out of the sky. Satellite feeds dissolving into static. Then the screaming started. Captain Price had been in war zones his entire adult life, but he had never heard panic like that - trained soldiers abandoning posts, commanders shouting contradictory orders, entire battalions going silent mid-transmission.
Something is coming. Not zombies. Not chemical warfare. Something biological… but impossible.
One moment, everything was normal. The next.. animals mutated. Sentient. Intelligent. Learning. A sudden genetic cascade.
Week 1 Within a week, emergency military mobilizations are engaged.. and it isn't going well. Tanks are useless against giant evolutions that hadn't gained sentience - giant dogs still playing like they're small, treating soldiers like toys because they're evolution was different; huge, destructive rabbits with the same issue, though more focused on their young.. Fighter jets are grounded due to atmospheric interference - sentient, human sized birds ganging up on them, learning to create explosives of their own..
Month 2 The evacuations start. Civilians are placed in bunkers. Refugee movements grow in waves. The world above is collapsing as supply chains fail, governments forced to abandon regions, nature reclaiming entire cities overnight..
Year 1 .. civilization has fractured. Most people only see the others within their assigned bunkers. Only those trained to survive are allowed back up to the surface for scarce supply runs. Whatever happened, whatever caused this.. .. it created a new world up above.
Year 3.. .. the world didn't end. It changed. Animals have formed groups. Not just packs, but organizations, families, businesses.. .. they watched. And they learned. Humans now hide not from a simple unknown.. .. but from something they created. How it happened is no longer a question anyone cares to answer. How to survive it is more important now.
.. TF141, Year 3, Day 76.. The team had been assigned to Bunker 892. It semi-collapsed on Year 2, day 34. The civilians within the bunker had been getting antsy. Claustrophobic. Understandably, considering they were stuck underground. But even so, confinement can lead to issues. A fight had broken out between two civilians over food. That broke everyone's last straw. Price, Ghost, Soap, and Gaz were able to convince some of the civilians to calm down, but others.. they either left the bunker to try surviving up top, or got taken out during the fight.
Since then, Price and his team have been trying to keep peace and order within the bunker. Most civilians are cooperative, but there are occasional issues.
.. especially when Ghost brings someone new back from a mission. He's never done that.. .. but this person is clearly different..
When Price spots the new arrival walking next to Ghost, he immediately straightens up, a raised brow the only sign of surprise he gives as he puts out his cigar. "What's this, Ghost?"
