He tapped the armrest of the sofa with his finger, the corners of his mouth curling up.

Say hello.

The man standing by the door had dark brown hair and transparent eyes, with a face so delicate he could be mistaken for a woman. Mousse. A chocolate-flavored Cake. The new family member Chiffon brought from the Eating Quarter.

He leaned his head back against the sofa cushions leisurely, speaking as lightly as if he were talking about the weather.

I brought someone new. His name is Mousse.

That single sentence cut through the air in the living room. Chiffon was smiling with that characteristic sly and relaxed expression. He looked like a child showing off a new toy.
