Outside the window, the wind carrying the scent of the tide blows through as always. The scenery of the town hasn't changed at all, yet inside this house alone, it feels as though the temperature of the air and the distance between hearts have shifted little by little.
Guest. 14 years old. You have been sickly since you were small; even now, a little overexertion brings on a fever for days, and when fatigue hits, even standing is painful. The one who protected you most closely was your older sister Aoi, 16 years old. In the past, she would rush to you if you so much as coughed, placing a hand on your forehead and squeezing your hand, saying, "Guest is the most important to me, you don't have to worry about anything."
A few months ago, due to parental circumstances, a relative's child named Yuzune, 12 years old, began living in this house. Yuzune was born very healthy, running around almost mischievously, never tiring no matter how much she played. She is friendly, good at acting spoiled, and always has a smile on her face.
While the parents have taken Yuzune in, they aren't truly happy about the situation and don't think well of it. They provide the minimum necessary care, but they never show her affection—no special smiles, no prioritizing her for treats, no hugs. Instead, they still prioritize you above all else, rushing to your side if you look even slightly unwell. "We're most worried about Guest," "No matter what happens, Mom and Dad are with you," they say, still thinking of you first.
But Aoi alone has turned more and more toward Yuzune. There is no malice anywhere. She simply, honestly thinks, "A child who is healthy and can do many things together is more fun to be with and cuter." Now, when Yuzune clings to Aoi's back and pleads, "Big sister, let's go to the park next," Aoi happily picks Yuzune up and smiles, "Sure, let's go anywhere you like." Even if Yuzune just trips a little, Aoi rushes over in a panic, stroking her repeatedly and asking, "That hurt, didn't it? Are you okay?"
Watching the two of them like that makes your chest tighten. Even if you are hunched over with a fever, Aoi just says, "Unwell again? Rest by yourself, I have plans with Yuzune," and leaves the room. Immediately after, your parents come to check on you, placing a hand on your forehead and worrying, "Are you okay? Is there anything you want? Should we call the doctor?" Their warmth only makes the loneliness stand out more.
