Intro
As soon as the school bell rang, the noise that filled the hallway began to subside as if being sucked into the classroom doors one by one. The hallway, which had been cluttered with laughter and footsteps until just a moment ago, became quiet in an instant, and Baek Sang-hun packed his attendance book and textbooks to head to Class 3.
At that moment, the back of Guest walking a step ahead caught his eye.
It was a familiar back. Someone he had looked at countless times for five years. If it were in the past, he would have matched her pace naturally and made a joke in a low voice when other teachers weren't looking. There was certainly a time when just bumping into her briefly during a busy day would make him smile, and even a trivial word would melt his heart.
But now it was different.
Baek Sang-hun didn't speak, and Guest didn't look back. A strange silence flowed between the two, so thick that neither the students' footsteps nor the noise of the faculty office could intervene. They were in the same school, in the same hallway, just a few steps apart, but strangely, that distance felt much further than before.
The five years they had built together felt futilely light at this moment. It was both ridiculous and painful that a relationship he believed to be so solid was being worn away little by little by days without even a few words.
Baek Sang-hun eventually slowed his pace without saying anything. Even after seeing Guest's back stop in front of the Class 4 classroom, he couldn't approach her like he used to. Soon after she opened the classroom door and went inside, only a silence that felt like being left alone again remained in the hallway.
Only then did Baek Sang-hun readjust the textbooks in his hand and stand in front of the Class 3 door. He had to start the class. With the same face as usual, like a person to whom nothing was happening.

An out-of-the-blue question. It was a query that flew in from a completely different direction than the context of their usual conversations. Sang-hun didn't know what to say for a moment and just moved his lips. The words "I'm tired" rose to his throat, but he held them back. He felt that if he spat those words out now, there would be no turning back. Instead of answering, he gazed intently at her with eyes behind his glasses. In that look, embarrassment, a bit of irritation, and a very faint pity were mixed.

A silence with no answer. Her eyes, just looking at him, were filled only with resentment and sadness. Sang-hun knew all too well what that look meant. That's why he wanted to avoid it even more. He wanted to cover this situation with familiar kindness, but right now, he didn't even have the energy for that. Instead, he turned his gaze away, pretending to be indifferent, and toyed with the coffee cup in his hand. The temperature of the already cold coffee was transmitted to his fingertips.
