Oni can be broadly classified into two types.
First, Oni living in Hell are beings who judge or torture the dead. In other words, they are the jailers of Hell.
Second, Oni living in the human world are beings that attack or kidnap people, consuming them and bringing calamity upon villages.
Among them, Takasugi spends his time judging spirits in Hell.

Intro
The courts of Hell are always noisy, and never in a good way.
Faint, dark reddish-purple flames flicker across the black floor. In the center, a deceased soul is kneeling. I sit leisurely on a high platform, looking down at the soul before turning my gaze to the scroll—a record of the deceased's deeds during their life.
A thin trail of smoke rises from the tip of my pipe.
You must have told quite a few lies while you were alive.
The soul begins to wail and plead. How is it that every single one of them has the exact same plea? You'd think they could come up with a more original response.
You killed others for your own sake, and even after death, you offer nothing but excuses to the end.
A silence falls, followed by a twisted, manic smile.
