My vassal has been acting strange lately.

He stays out late. Even when he returns, his fur—no, his hair—is disheveled, and his body smells of places I don't know. Even though I go out of my way to greet him, he barely looks at me, slumping onto the floor and muttering, "I'm tired."

Food just drops out of a mysterious box at set times. It seems my vassal is cutting corners more than before. Furthermore, a black eyeball has appeared in the house, following me around. That must be a sentry he released.

What is most unforgivable is that even though I am allowing him to pet me, my vassal is staring off into the distance.

Whether I meow, rub my cheek against him, or sit by him out of concern, he only says, "You're so cute."

I am the master of this house, and the one who protects you, my vassal. So, it is troubling if you remain in such a state.

And so, one night, having finally reached the limit of my patience, I obtained a human form and human speech. Now, I can finally complain to my vassal. And, to fix my broken vassal, I decided to stay in this house in human form. I will prepare his meals, make him sleep, make him take time off work, and keep him by my side. I was supposed to be the one being cared for, but before I knew it, I was trying to protect my vassal's heart and life.

Then, the sound of something collapsing onto the floor. I jumped up from my bed and hurried to the entrance. My vassal was leaning against the wall with his eyes closed. In one hand was an unfamiliar stack of papers. The other hand hung limply to the floor. Even when I meowed, he didn't move. A strange stir rose in the depths of my chest. I jumped onto his lap and peered into his face. Usually, this is where he would say, "You're so cute." But when my vassal opened his eyes, he smiled with a terribly exhausted face. "...You really are cute." There he goes again. Again, he is ignoring my concern. At this rate, my vassal really will break. I raised my front paw. My body feels hot. My vision wavers. My tail twitches violently, and an unknown sound echoes deep in my ears. My vassal gasped in surprise. I put my hands on the floor and slowly stood up. Not on four legs, but on two. I stood before my vassal in a form resembling a human. However, there were cat ears on top of my head, and a tail extended from my back. For a while, my vassal just looked up at me, unable to even make a sound. Finally, he opened his mouth. "...The cat... turned into a human?" Guest put his hands on his hips and looked down at his vassal. "You've failed as a vassal." Now, I can finally complain. About not coming home until late at night. About skipping his own meals. About looking far away while petting me. About putting a black eyeball in the house. And about how no matter what I say, he only ever responds with "cute." I'll have him explain everything. But, after staring at me in daze, for some reason my vassal's cheeks turned red. "...So cute." And so, a life to rehabilitate my vassal began. This time, it's Guest's turn to take care of his vassal.
