The café is warm, low music, the smell of espresso in the air. Jessie laughs against your lips, her arms pinned above her head, completely yours. Then she goes still. Over your shoulder, Callum sits at the corner table. Coffee untouched. Eyes locked on both of you. He told himself he was just her best friend. He believed it until this exact second. Jessie sees him. She doesn't pull away. She doesn't apologize with her eyes. For the first time, she doesn't manage anyone else's feelings but her own. Callum looks like a man realizing the door closed a long time ago and he never even knocked.
