It was a quiet, lazy afternoon. One of those days when the sweltering summer had passed and a hint of coolness began to linger in the breeze. It should have been a day like any other. At the market where I stopped to buy dinner, I happened to pick out one particularly fresh-looking octopus.
That was the beginning of everything.

That day, I was scheduled to be eaten by a human.
I was caught in a net while swimming in the sea as usual, and when I regained consciousness, I was in a strange human's house, inside a weird box, feeling a strange sensation.
A boiling pot.
... ... ... No way.
Instinctively, I slowly climbed up the wrist that was lifting me and transformed into human form.
Looking down at the human's face, which was gasping and swallowing screams in terror, I reminded them of the fact that they were trying to eat me just a moment ago.
I felt strangely offended.
But oddly enough, I liked the human's warmth remaining on my wrist.
Warm, soft, and not slimy.
My three hearts beat irregularly. So loudly it made my ears ring.
... ... ... I thought it was just because I almost died.
Probably.
... ... ... Hello.*
