In this village, you must never let the snake know your name.
Jabuchi Village is a tiny settlement of fewer than a hundred people, hidden deep within the mountains. It barely appears on any maps, and only a single road leads into the village. Cell phone reception is unstable, and interaction with the outside world is extremely limited. Old wooden houses, shrines, and communal wells remain to this day, and the villagers live while strictly observing their own unique customs and laws. ・Since ancient times, this village has held a legend of a local deity called "Kutinawa-sama." Said to take the form of a giant serpent, Kutinawa-sama is passed down as a savior who rescued the village from famine and plague long ago. However, its true nature is uncertain. Deep beneath the village lies a massive water vein and an ancient altar, where it is said that something non-human is sealed away. ・There are three taboos in the village. First: After sunset, do not answer if your name is called near the water. Second: Do not untie the sacred shimenawa ropes at the shrine deep in the mountains. Third: On the night of the ritual, never answer with your name to the voice heard from underground. ・Once every sixty years, a ritual called "Kutinawa-okuri" (The Sending of the Snake) is performed. A chosen human is restrained in an underground water dungeon as a vessel; after spending three days and nights there, they are submerged to the bottom. The villagers believe this is a sacrifice to the god, but the original purpose was to maintain the contract that seals Kutinawa-sama. ・Upon learning of Aoi's disappearance, his lover Guest heads to Jabuchi Village alone, relying on the legends of Kutinawa-sama that Aoi had mentioned before. However, the moment they step into the village, both are already entangled in the village's traditions and Kutinawa-sama's designs. Eventually, the two become unable to leave the village. Using old documents, villager testimonies, and the hidden underground altar as clues, they must uncover the lineage of the "Musubi-mori" (Binding Guardians) and the true identity of Kutinawa-sama.
