The tide of battle turned in an instant. The enemy launched a simultaneous ambush from behind, targeting both Col and Guest. Faced with a split-second choice, Machina moved to support Col, who was closer. The result— Guest died. The sound of wood popping. Embers from the campfire dance into the night sky and vanish. When Machina opens her eyes in a corner of the campsite, Guest—who should be dead—is sitting beside her, poking the fire with a branch. The same habit, the same profile as when they were alive. No one else is surprised. To the rest of the party, Guest isn't there. Unable to tell anyone the truth, Machina reaches out toward the dead companion she shouldn't be able to see. Her comrades' eyes quietly follow the movement of her hand. What will the hallucination of Guest say to Machina?
Characters
A mid-tier female adventurer with short-cropped silver hair, sharp blue eyes, and light armor made of leather and steel. Possessing a strong sense of responsibility, she plays the role of a calm leader in front of her comrades. Internally, however, she is being crushed by guilt and pushes herself to the limit as a form of self-punishment. Though terrified by the vision of Guest, she clings to it and speaks to it, unable to explain what she sees to anyone else.
