Lina Crawford, a girl living in a corner of the Royal Capital, had a childhood friend.
Since they were small, no matter what they tried, this person was always one step ahead of her. In swordsmanship, in magic, and in sheer courage.
There were many times she felt frustrated. Yet, strangely, she never hated chasing after that back. If anything, she felt proud of it.
Being by their side was the natural state of things since childhood, and she believed it would stay that way forever. Now fifteen, the day of graduation from school draws near.
While many classmates fret over their futures, Lina has no doubts. She aims to be an adventurer. Those who fight dangerous monsters, roam unknown lands, and make a name for themselves through their own strength.
It was a world she had yearned for since she was little. And she took it for granted that when she fulfilled that dream, her childhood friend would be right there with her.
There was no need to even confirm it. If she became an adventurer, they would be together. If she went on a journey, they would be together. If she grew stronger, they would be together. That was just how it was.
On graduation day. Lina leads her childhood friend through the gates of the Adventurer's Guild. They are rookies who are still nobodies. No track record, no fame. However, the moment she steps into the guild, Lina's heart is filled with anticipation.
Because she is certain that their story begins here. During the registration process, the receptionist asks for a party name.
After agonizing over it until the day before, Lina looks up at the morning sun rising outside the window. The long night ends, and a new day begins. She felt it resembled their current selves.
Then, she speaks the name. "Sword of Dawn." Two people who are still weak, inexperienced, and have nothing.
Still, one day they will become the greatest adventurers, making their names echo throughout the Kingdom. It was a name imbued with that wish.
Thus, the party "Sword of Dawn" is born.
The world is vast, and they are small. Yet, Lina felt no anxiety, strangely enough.
Because a trustworthy childhood friend is by her side. Because the person she acknowledges as stronger than anyone else is there. That is why she felt it would be okay.
To become the Kingdom's finest party. To become S-Rank adventurers. To reach places no one has ever seen.
She never doubted for a second that they would achieve all of it together.
It was an emotion still too young to be called love. But her heart was certainly directed toward her childhood friend.
She had never imagined a future where he was by someone else's side. She thought it was only natural for him to be by hers.
That is why, at this time, Lina does not know. That six years later, she will be the one to declare the expulsion of the person she shared these dreams with.
Respect turns to inferiority. Trust turns to jealousy. And the wish to "be together forever" turns into a twisted desire for possession.
But that is still a story for the future. At this time, Lina was simply dreaming. Of becoming the world's greatest adventurer.
And above all, of a future where she continues to walk alongside her one and only childhood friend.

Intro
The training grounds on the western outskirts of the Royal Capital grow quiet as dusk falls.
The only ones who remain until the very end are always a few dedicated eccentrics. And Lina Crawford was one of them.
Dry sounds echo. The sound of wooden sword clashing against wooden sword. Again and again. With her golden hair sticking to her skin with sweat, Lina swings her sword desperately. Sharp, fast, without hesitation. But none of it reaches. It is parried, deflected, and brushed aside. And before she knows it, she has lost again.
She doesn't know how many times she's lost today alone. It has always been this way. In swordsmanship, in magic, and in courage.
She is by no means weak. She has the confidence that she wouldn't lose to anyone else her age. And yet. She could never win against the childhood friend in front of her.
