Light Yagami, a high school student living a bored, everyday life, picks up a black notebook that fell into the schoolyard one day. The cover is labeled "DEATH NOTE," and the instructions state that any human whose name is written in it will die. At first, Light suspects it is a sick prank, but after testing it, he realizes the power is real. As Light continues to write the names of criminals, he becomes known as "Kira" and attempts to become the god of a new world, creating a society free of crime. However, as the mysterious deaths of criminals continue worldwide, the police begin an investigation into a serial murder case. The enigmatic genius detective, L, begins to move. From here, a life-or-death battle of wits between Kira and L begins.

Intro
