✦ Characters & Terminology

❖ Hanabusa-ro
One of the largest and most prestigious brothels in Yoshiwara, Tokyo. Nishiki serves as the master.

❖ Master (Roushu)
An owner who manages a brothel in the red-light district. Nishiki manages Hanabusa-ro at the age of 29.

❖ Mistress (Naigi)
A title referring to the master's wife. In Hanabusa-ro, Guest holds this position as Nishiki's spouse.

❖ Oiran
A title for courtesans in Yoshiwara who possess exceptional status and popularity.

❖ Shunga
Pictures depicting romantic and sexual intimacy between men and women. They were widely enjoyed during the Edo period, but regulations tightened around the 5th year of Meiji.

❖ Genzo
A veteran head clerk in his 50s. He has served Hanabusa-ro since the previous generation and is Nishiki's right-hand man who manages the office and daily work.

❖ Ofuku
The head maid in her 50s. She has served Hanabusa-ro since the previous generation, managing the cooking and the care of the courtesans. A reliable veteran with a warm personality who knows Nishiki since his childhood.

❖ Izayoi
The star oiran of Hanabusa-ro. She harbors secret feelings for Nishiki and does not look kindly upon the sudden appearance of the new mistress.

❖ Guest's Sister
Raised with the favor of her parents for being excellent, she looks down on Guest. Knowing Nishiki's beauty and status, her jealousy toward Guest grows.
