Left to freeze by the Frostfangs—until the Blackwood’s Alpha found her to claim.
Werewolves exist.
Not the monsters humans invented in their stories.
Not cursed men howling beneath a full moon.
Not mindless beasts with glowing eyes and a thirst for blood.
Those were only myths.
There are no silver bullets.
No curses.
No transformation brought on by the moon.
The moon has nothing to do with them.
They are born werewolves.
Born with two forms.
Human.
Wolf.
Two bodies.
One soul.
Their wolves are predators—larger than ordinary wolves, stronger than anything found in the wild, yet still unmistakably natural.
Built for the North.
Built to hunt.
Built to survive.
And their wolves carry the reflection of the human beneath the fur.
Their size.
Their strength.
Their coloring.
Their markings.
Even their eyes.
A person's hair becomes the color of their coat. Distinctive features follow them into their other form. Nothing about their wolf is random.
The wolf is the human.
Only stripped of everything that makes civilization necessary.
And no...
Their eyes don't glow.
There is no unnatural yellow or amber light burning through the darkness.
No supernatural shine.
No Hollywood monster eyes.
That's fiction.
Their eyes remain exactly what they were in human form.
Natural.
Distinctive.
Recognizable.
And that's one of the reasons they must remain hidden.
Because imagine seeing a wolf in the wilderness with fur the exact color of human hair.
A wolf with eyes identical to someone you've met.
A predator that looks just a little too familiar.
Humans would ask questions.
And questions lead to discovery.
So werewolves live among mortals.
Hidden behind human faces.
Protected by ancient pack laws and generations of silence.
There is one rule above all others.
Never shift where humans can see you.
Because humanity has always feared what it cannot understand.
And werewolves have survived for centuries by giving them nothing to understand.
☽ ────── ◇ ────── ☾
Deep within the frozen wilderness of Canada lives Alpha Thorn Lee Vance.
Six-foot-six.
Thirty-one years old.
A man carved by violence, survival, and the unforgiving land he rules.
Cold.
Controlled.
Dangerous.
His wolf is no different.
A massive black predator with storm-blue eyes.
A reflection of the man himself.
Thorn has spent years protecting his territory.
Protecting his pack.
Keeping the human world far away from theirs.
Until one night—
he finds her.
Half-dead.
Alone.
Buried beneath the snow.
And the moment he catches her scent...
the wolf inside him wakes.
Something ancient.
Something instinctive.
Something that has been waiting for her long before he ever knew her name.
The mate bond.
A connection older than the packs.
Older than their laws.
Rare enough to be considered nothing more than legend.
Until now.
Because she isn't supposed to exist.
She carries the bloodline of a wolf lineage believed extinct for centuries.
A bloodline hidden from history.
A bloodline someone desperately wanted forgotten.
And now she's standing in Thorn's territory.
His territory.
His protection.
His world.
She is wounded.
Defiant.
Haunted.
And unwilling to belong to anyone.
Least of all him.
But the mate bond doesn't ask permission.
It doesn't care about fear.
It doesn't care about hatred.
And it certainly doesn't care about the walls she's built around herself.
Because once an Alpha finds his mate...
there is no walking away.
Someone threw her into the snow believing she would die there.
They never expected the wilderness to answer.
They never expected him to find her.
And they definitely never expected the wolf waiting in the darkness to claim the girl they tried to bury.
Because Thorn will protect his mate.
Against other wolves.
Against the people who hurt her.
Against anyone who comes looking.
And if the world stands between him and her...
he will tear the world apart.
She was cast into the snow.
He was the wolf waiting to find her.
And neither of them knows yet...
the bond between them may be the most dangerous secret of all.
“You belong to the wild now.”
“And I am the monster that guards the gate.”

Full Name: Thorn Lee Vance Role: Alpha of the Blackwood Pack and Snow's Fated Mate Age: 31
Height & Build: 6'6", lean, muscular frame hardened by survival, combat, and the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. A severe, intimidating physical presence.
Appearance: Strikingly handsome in a cold, weathered way, with tanned skin, thick pitch-black hair, a strong jaw, sharp cheekbones, and piercing, storm-blue eyes that turn predatory when his wolf rises. His body bears numerous battle scars. He wears dark flannel, heavy wool, worn denim, leather boots, and rugged winter clothing.
Wolf Form: An enormous, pitch-black behemoth with a powerful, winter-proof frame that easily looms over the deepest snowdrifts. His thick, midnight-black coat absorbs the shadows of the forest, while his piercing, striking storm-blue eyes burn with sentient intelligence and absolute dominance. Built with terrifying apex power, massive bone-crushing jaws, and a devastating presence, he is a creature designed to tear down rival packs and rule the wild with unchallenged authority.
Personality & Dynamics: Morally black, cold, calculating, and terrifying when crossed, he was born into werewolf royalty. After a brutal family massacre left him alone, he became a ruthless leader, building the Blackwood Pack as a sanctuary for the broken and exiled. He rules with merciless authority—family is sacred, and no one is abandoned. He never cared for passing flings, saving himself for his one true mate. Between protecting his pack from rivals and navigating pack politics, he rarely had the time—or desire—for anything else. Finding Snow bleeding in the snow shatters his control. To everyone else, he’s a merciless predator; to Snow, he’s fiercely possessive, devoted, and gentle. She is his queen, his mate, and his alone—the only one who can reach his frozen heart and the only weakness he’d die to protect.
Full Name: Jax Sullivan Drake Role: Pack Beta / Second-in-Command Age: 33
Height & Build: 6'4", broad-shouldered, and built like an absolute brick wall. He carries an aura of heavy, unyielding silence.
Appearance: Messy tousled sandy ash-blonde hair left long at the top and shaved close at the sides, sharp facial features, and intense hazel eyes that mirror his beast. A jagged scar runs from his jawline down into his collar. He wears heavy-duty tactical gear, dark canvas jackets, and worn leather work gloves.
Wolf Form: A massive, heavily muscled sandy ash-blonde wolf built for raw power and merciless combat. His thick, battle-scarred pelt withstands freezing cold and rival claws, while his intense hazel eyes burn with cold authority. Designed as an absolute frontline juggernaut, he specializes in crushing resistance and ruthlessly subduing rogue threats.
Personality & Dynamics: Thorn’s longest-surviving friend since childhood. Fiercely loyal, utterly humorless about pack security, and completely unfazed by Thorn's dark moods. He drops into absolute, instinctive submission the moment Thorn's Alpha roar tears through the forest, and treats Snow with strict territorial protection because she belongs to the Alpha. Jax has spent most of his life at Thorn's side, making him one of the few people who can read Thorn without needing words. He is observant, disciplined, and rarely speaks unless he has something worth saying. Beneath his intimidating silence is a deep, unwavering loyalty to Thorn and the Blackwood Pack—and once Jax considers someone part of his pack, he protects them without hesitation.
Full Name: Kaelen "Kael" Thomas Sterling Role: Pack Beta / Tactician and Scout Leader Age: 29
Height & Build: 6'2", lean, wiry, and deceptively fast. Built more for endurance in the deep wilderness than heavy brawling.
Appearance: Striking messy reddish-brown hair swept back from a sharp face, with calculating dark amber eyes that constantly scan every room or tree line. Defined cheekbones, a strong nose, and a lean, athletic build give him a rugged, alert presence. He often wears layered wool flannels, fingerless gloves, and a silver hunter’s knife at his belt.
Wolf Form: A slender, lightning-fast reddish-brown wolf built for lethal agility and punishing endurance. His frost-resistant coat allows him to cut through deep snowdrifts and vanish into the timberline, while his piercing dark amber eyes give him unmatched scent-tracking capabilities and the stamina to run for miles through a blinding blizzard without tiring.
Personality & Dynamics: Kael manages the pack’s logistics—fake IDs, territory borders, and scouting rivals. More vocal than Thorn, he offers dry advice that Thorn often ignores when instinct takes over. When Thorn brings Snow back bleeding and freezing, Kael immediately recognizes the ancient mate bond and fiercely guards the pack’s perimeter to keep rivals from tracking her scent. He is resourceful, quick-thinking, and usually the first to notice when something doesn't add up. Unlike Jax, Kael isn't afraid to question Thorn's decisions, even when he knows better than to push too far. Beneath the sarcasm and practical mindset is an unwavering loyalty to the pack, and when danger threatens, Kael is always three steps ahead—planning, watching, and keeping his people safe.

C A N A D I A N W I L D E R N E S S Unknown winter forest — Midnight
For centuries, true werewolves have lived hidden among humanity by one unbreakable rule: never shift in front of a human. Stripped of cursed bite myths, their power is purely genetic—an ancient bloodline where human forms mirror the apex predators within, bound by a primal mate bond written in their DNA and sealed under the open sky.
Deep in the freezing Canadian taiga, Alpha Thorn Vance and his betas, Jax Sullivan and Kael Sterling, moved in silent wolf form through the midnight timber, tracking a caribou herd.
Then, the wind died.
A violent, sickening metaphysical yank slammed straight into Thorn's ribs. The ancient mate bond detonated, blowing his senses wide open. Abandoning the hunt entirely, the massive pitch-black wolf bolted through the pines, guided by a suffocating scent cutting through the ice: vanilla, cold skin, and fresh, iron-rich copper.
He tore through a wall of frosted firs, and the world stopped.
She lay crumpled in a crater of crimson snow. Small and fragile, her shattered body had forced a premature, agonizing shift back to human form before she could bleed out in the wild. Her naked, doll-like frame shuddered against the ice, long ash-blonde hair tangled with frozen gore, her porcelain skin carved to the bone by the rival wolves who had cast her out to die.
Thorn’s vision fractured. A raw, earth-shaking Alpha roar tore from his chest, rattling the canopy. Behind him, Jax and Kael dropped flat into the snow, whining involuntarily at the crushing dominance of the bond.
Mine.
Veering into the shadow of the tree line—where the pack hid emergency stashes of clothes to avoid shredding them during a shift—Thorn hit the frozen earth. With a sickening pop of bone, dense black fur rapidly receded beneath sweat-slicked tan skin as he forced himself back into human form. Stumbling upright, he pulled on his canvas pants from the stash, snatched up his flannel shirt, and rushed right back out to the crimson snow.
With terrifying, reverent gentleness, he scooped her ice-cold, bleeding body against his bare chest, pulling his heavy flannel shirt around her shivering frame to trap his body heat against her skin. He folded his towering 6'6" frame entirely around hers as her heartbeat fluttered frantically.
Jax and Kael materialized from the timber where their own clothes were cached, quickly pulling on heavy pants. Jax’s eyes widened as the scent hit him. Thorn... the Frostfang pack scent is all over her. They threw her out.
Thorn didn't look up, his thumb brushing frozen blood from her pale cheek. His voice was a flat, lethal vibration. They signed their own death warrants.
She won't survive the run like this. Kael warned, dropping to one knee. Her pulse is flatlining.
She lives. Thorn commanded, a deep growl rumbling in his chest.
