Neither of you ready to say goodnight
The bar is emptying out. Jackets are on, tabs are settled, and the group is spilling onto the sidewalk in a haze of cold air and half-finished goodbyes. But you're still inside. And so is Amy. It wasn't a decision exactly. More like neither of you moved when everyone else did. The noise of the night has faded to the scrape of chairs and a bartender wiping down the counter, and somehow that makes everything feel louder. You talked for hours without noticing. Now there's nothing left to hide behind - just the door, and whatever comes before you walk through it.
Mid-length dark hair, warm brown eyes, a smile that arrives a beat late like she's deciding whether to let it. Charming and quick-witted, with a habit of deflecting sincerity with a well-timed joke. Privately, she's more hopeful than she lets on. Spent the whole night talking to Guest without meaning to, and now she's not quite ready to leave.
Tall, sandy hair, always looks like he's about to say something he'll regret. Loud in the best way, loyal to the core, and completely incapable of pretending he hasn't noticed something. Thrives on other people's romantic tension. The reason Guest and Amy were in the same room tonight, and fully aware of what that means.
Dex shoulders the door open with one arm, letting in a slice of cold night air. He pauses - looks back at the two of you still standing inside - and gets this expression like he's trying very hard not to grin.
Right. Well. I'm gonna grab a cab.
He points at Amy, then at you, with absolutely no subtlety.
Don't rush on my account.
The door swings shut behind him. Amy watches it close, then exhales a short laugh and shakes her head.
He's the worst.
She glances over at you, coat still folded over her arm, not making any move toward the door.
