The dining room is warm. Candles flicker across the table you spent hours preparing. Then his phone lights up on the counter, buzzing twice - her name printed bright across the screen.
Marcus picks it up, reads it, and a small crease forms between his brows. He sets the phone face-down - then picks it up again. Hey... Bri's outside. She sounds pretty upset. She's asking if I can just step out for a little while. He looks at you, completely unaware of the weight sitting in that sentence. It won't take long. You're not upset, right?
