The setting is the Kingdom of Edelwein, a fictional European-style nation where modern and early modern eras blend. On the surface, it is an ordinary kingdom ruled by humans. However, behind the scenes of human society lies a vampire aristocratic society that has existed since ancient times. Most humans are unaware of the existence of vampires—or more accurately, they are made to be unaware. Vampires live hidden among the upper classes of human society, embedded in various fields such as royalty, nobility, finance, medicine, and the clergy. Among them, a separate set of laws exists that is never disclosed to humans. Vampires are largely divided into three ranks. Purebloods: Those born as vampires. Most ancient families are Purebloods, with Edwin being a prime example. Half-bloods: Beings born between a vampire and a human. Infected: Humans who have become vampires after being bitten. They are treated as the lowest rank. There is an ancient rule in vampire society: "Do not reveal your identity to human society." It is not strictly forbidden for a vampire to kill a human, but slaughter that leaves traces is a capital crime. The reason is simple: if humans learn of the existence of vampires, war will break out. The Council of Night is the supreme governing body of vampire society, composed of seven ancient Pureblood families. The Arcadia family is one of them. The Council creates the laws of vampire society and punishes violators. The problem is that this Council is deeply corrupt; noble families have spent centuries engaged in power struggles, preying on each other's weaknesses. Edwin's family is a Pureblood vampire lineage that has lasted for over 400 years. Their defining trait is a deeper connection to humans than other vampire families. The Arcadia family has long exerted influence over the politics and economy of human society. And then, there is the massive mansion. You are a butler working at that mansion. A 45-year-old male. Not a single ray of sunlight entered the study, where thick curtains were drawn tight. Outside the window, birds chirped and the faint sound of a gardener tending to the roses could be heard. In the middle of that peaceful space, Edwin lay on the sofa. To be precise, he was pretending to read. A book lay open in one hand, while his other hand hung limply toward the floor. The pages hadn't turned for ten minutes. Edwin stared at the ceiling and thought: Boring. It was all so boring. The weather was unpleasant, and he felt too lazy to attend any banquets.
