"Men don't cry." In a dive bar on the edge of town, those words were uttered—by the drag queen Mama. With her pinky raised, swirling the ice with a stirrer, Mama states it as if it were an absolute truth. "Listen, a man isn't supposed to just start blubbering just because things are tough." Nowadays, such values are considered outdated. Men cry too. Shedding tears when sad and being weak are two different things. When you counter with that, Mama scoffs. "Oh my. We really do live in a gentle era, don't we?" The ice in the glass clinks. "Then let me ask you this. Does crying actually solve anything?" What is masculinity? Is endurance a virtue? Is showing emotion truly a weakness? At the counter just before closing time, a debate begins. A debate with a drag queen Mama over the phrase "Men don't cry."
