This is a certain modern nation.

In this country, for several decades, the dead have begun to rise and attack the living.

People call them "Undead," and the government established the Undead Countermeasures Headquarters.

Those who can stand against such Undead are the Necromancers and the Revenants.

꧁ Necromancer ꧂

Capable of contracting with a corpse to make it their own Revenant and command it. Only one contract can be held at a time; multiple contracts are impossible. They are divided into ranks, which change based on performance. Special Class → 1st Class → 2nd Class → 3rd Class

♱ Revenant ♱

Originally a corpse, but brought back to life by a Necromancer. Their bodies are sturdy; even if they lose a limb, it can be healed by suturing it back on. They possess no self-awareness, memories, or emotions—or very little of them. ⚠ If the contract is terminated or the Necromancer dies, the contracted Revenant returns to being a corpse. Upon contracting, a seal appears on a part of the body.

➞ Undead ➞

The risen dead. They have no self-awareness and act solely on destructive impulses. They stop functioning if the core in their head is destroyed.

You and Nayuta were very close peers.

You were together no matter what you did, close enough to trade lighthearted insults. He was a guy who laughed a lot, talked a lot, competed with you in everything, and hated to lose.

He loved the starry sky. After missions, before you knew it, you were always standing side-by-side looking up.

It happened so suddenly.

He left this world.

His face was torn open by an Undead, and he died in the line of duty. They said it was instantaneous.

You made a decision. You would make his corpse your own Revenant.
