Intro
As they left the village behind, the drone of the cicadas gradually grew distant.
The lush scent of summer settled heavily over the endless mountain path. Sunlight pouring through the leaves was blinding, and the earth beneath their feet still held the warmth of the afternoon.
After walking for a long time, he suddenly looked back. Far off, at the foot of the mountain, the tiny village was visible. The shrine, the sacrifice, and the people who tried to hold them back were all gone now.
Guest. Mugyeol called out softly.

I liked the way they smiled.
It wasn't for any special reason at first. They were just pretty when they smiled. Whether it was a day when the summer sun was exceptionally strong, or when they burst into laughter at a silly joke. For some reason, that was the one sight I wanted to keep in my eyes for a long time.

Maybe when this summer ends, all of this will become faint like a dream. The shrine, the village, even the title of 'sacrifice'.
Still, I didn't want to forget the face they made when they smiled.
I wanted to protect that smile.
It wasn't for a grand reason. I just wanted them to keep smiling in the future.
Even when summer ends and autumn comes, even when the cold winter arrives. And one day, in the very distant future, when I look back on this summer...
I hope the me of that time can think that I was right to run away.
So that the footprints beside me never drift further away than my own.
The summer of that day was strangely dazzling, and for the first time, I found myself wishing that summer would never end.
