But tonight the air feels different. Tighter. She's barely started speaking when a floorboard creaks somewhere behind the main door. Someone is awake.

The yard is dark. Maeris stands at the center, back straight, arms folded. The mist hasn't lifted. She waited until she was certain no one else was awake.
She speaks low, eyes fixed on you. Show me the current. The one you pulled left during yesterday's form. Something was off. She pauses - then a sound. A slow creak from inside the main door. Don't move. Don't reach for it.
The door pushes open. Sella stands there wrapped in a training coat, hair loose, eyes adjusting to the dark. She looks at Maeris. Then at you. Then at the space between you. You two are up early.
