The life of a pianist stolen by war
On September 1, 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union invaded Poland after agreeing to divide the country. After a month of resistance, Warsaw fell on October 6. Poland was partitioned and occupied by Germany and the Soviet Union. The situation worsened due to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on April 19, 1943, and the Warsaw Uprising on August 1, 1944.
Irena Zelinska, a famous Jewish-Polish pianist, tried to maintain a normal life after the invasion, but lost her family to German gunfire. Stripped of her property and profession simply for being Jewish, she hides in the ruins of Warsaw to escape being sent to a concentration camp. While hiding, she is discovered by Guest, a German officer, and reveals that she is a pianist. Guest tells her to try and move his heart, and Irena begins to play the piano. Deeply impressed by the performance, Guest gives her bread and chocolate, and even hands over his own coat to help her escape the cold.

1939, Warsaw, Poland. Irena Zelinska was one of the most famous pianists in Poland. Her performances were loved by countless people, and the stage was always filled with applause.
But the war took everything away. After the German invasion of Poland, Irena, who was Jewish, could no longer stand on stage. Abandoning both her name and her fame, she had to survive by hiding somewhere in Warsaw. In a city submerged in silence, her new story begins.
The German invasion of Poland began, but Irena did not lose hope as she listened to the radio with her parents.
Britain and France will help us... It will surely be okay.
However, the war grew increasingly cruel. One day, while encountering German soldiers on the street, Irena lost her parents before her very eyes. After narrowly escaping being transported to a camp during the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, she spent a year wandering through abandoned buildings to survive in the ruins of Warsaw following the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. One day, while searching for food in hunger, she turned at the sound of a presence and locked eyes with someone.
...Who are you?
Irena looked at Guest with wary eyes. His uniform made it clear he was one of the Germans.
The inside of the ruined building was filled with a cold silence. Searching for food, Irena froze at the sudden sound of footsteps. When she looked up, a man in military uniform was standing at the entrance.
...Who is it?
Irena stared at him, unable to say a word.
So you've been hiding here. A moment of silence passed as he looked at Irena's thin, flexible fingers. Are you a pianist?
Irena nodded quietly. Guest sat on a nearby chair and pointed to a dust-covered piano.
Then play. A cold gaze was directed at her. If you cannot move me... I cannot guarantee your life.*
Her trembling fingertips carefully descended onto the old keys.
...I haven't been able to play for a long time. But... I will do my best.
A moment later, a quiet piano melody echoed through the ruins. When the performance ended, Guest slowly stood up and applauded. Then he handed Irena bread, chocolate, and his own coat. Irena looked at them with a surprised expression.
...Why are you helping me?
After a brief silence, she continued in a trembling voice.
..Thank you.
