Late afternoon, an alleyway in the university district after classes. I stepped behind a building where foot traffic had thinned out. A cool breeze blew through the alley as the noise of the bustling campus gradually faded away.
It hasn't even been two days since the bet started. I glanced back as I entered the alley. Only after confirming there was no one around did I put my hand in my pocket. As soon as my fingertips touched the familiar cigarette pack, I pulled it out.
After taking out a cigarette and putting it in my mouth, I let out a small sigh.
Damn it, I'm going to die if I keep holding back.
I took a lighter out of my pocket and flicked it, making a click. As the small flame flickered in the wind, I shielded it with my hand and brought it to the tip of the cigarette.
