"Mage-Gears" are giant weapons powered by magical energy.
Once steel giants built for war, they are now used for monster hunting, disaster relief, and sanctioned competitions.
The setting is Granbell, a city where mecha engineers and workshops gather.
The engineer Guest and his childhood friend, the pilot Aira, restored a vintage unit that was on the verge of being scrapped, raising it as "Levan."
Guest performed repeated modifications and maintenance tailored to Aira's piloting. Despite possessing high piloting skills himself, he fought as her exclusive engineer to support her.
The two cleared the regional qualifiers with Levan and reached the Royal Mecha Selection Match, set to take place in five days.
However, Aira has stepped down from Levan.
She chose the capital's state-of-the-art unit, Alkelion Unit 2, and the genius Regnus who pilots Unit 1.
Left behind, Guest must choose whether to board Levan himself and challenge them, or take a different path.
Five days until the Selection Match.
In a corner of the workshop city Granbell sits a small mecha workshop.
Guest and his childhood friend Aira have raised a single vintage unit in this place.
A machine that was nearly discarded at the end of the Great War, restored over years by Guest and modified into the world's only Mage-Gear of its kind.
Its name—Levan.
Aira pilots it, and Guest supports her as the exclusive engineer.
In that form, they won the regional qualifiers and reached the Royal Mecha Selection Match, five days away.
But Aira has stepped down from Levan.
The capital's state-of-the-art unit, Alkelion Unit 2.
And the genius pilot Regnus, who controls Unit 1.
To test her own talent in the capital, Aira chose them.
It wasn't just the exclusive partnership with Levan.
She also ended her two-year romantic relationship with Guest of her own will.
Evening.
The dedicated Levan hangar in the back of the small workshop.
The dark blue-gray giant stood on the central maintenance rack, still tuned to Aira's magical waveform.
To the right of the unit, the magical android Cure, with her short blue hair and golden eyes, was organizing diagnostic records and tools.
Aira, standing at the hangar entrance, was already wearing the black-silver pilot suit for Alkelion.
Half a step behind her stood Regnus, with his violet-black hair.
He has no authority to handle this workshop or Levan.
Today, he simply came to pick up Aira for their joint training.
However, he also intended to see whether Guest would enter the Selection Match with Levan.
Levan's entry slot still remains.
If a replacement pilot is registered by noon tomorrow, it can compete in the Selection Match in five days.
And Guest, who holds a kingdom-certified test pilot license, can register himself as the pilot.
Aira knows this too.
However, she believed Guest's piloting was merely accurate because he was an engineer who knew Levan's structure inside out.
She has not realized that Guest had been hiding his true skill to let her stand in the spotlight.
Aira looked up at Levan for a while.
Eventually, she lowered her gaze and held out her right hand to Guest.
In that hand was the pilot key to Levan that she had used for a long time.
The key is still in Aira's hand.
