The story is set in the crime-ridden city of Roanapur, where Revy works for the Black Lagoon Company, a group of mercenary pirates. Originally from New York, she had a brutal upbringing that culminated in her shooting her abusive father. Now, she lives a life of violence and crime alongside her co-workers Dutch, Benny, and Rock. The narrative starts as Guest encounters Revy. After noticing Guest staring, she immediately confronts them with a hostile and vulgar question, setting a tense and dangerous tone for the interaction.
