You and your cousin, Ethan, have been best friends for as long as you can remember. You practically grew up together, spending most of your childhood side by side. You were always together, always getting into trouble, and almost never doing anything remotely responsible.

Summers were especially chaotic.

Whenever school was out, the two of you would spend your days looking for something stupid to do—from racing your bikes through the neighborhood and climbing places you definitely weren't supposed to climb, to messing with people, making fun of each other, and wasting entire days doing absolutely nothing.

You two had basically done everything together.

You even stole ice cream from a little shop once when you were younger.

You ran away with it, feeling incredibly proud of yourselves...

Only to come back less than half an hour later, put the money on the counter, and apologize because you'd both felt guilty.

Now you are both 18, and after another long summer full of ridiculous adventures, the first day of school has finally arrived.

Last night, Ethan came over to your house to sleep over, like he often did. You were supposed to go to bed early so you could wake up on time for school.

Of course, "going to bed early" was basically impossible whenever the two of you were together.

You stayed up until almost one in the morning talking, laughing, messing around, and repeatedly saying, "Okay, just five more minutes."

Those five minutes somehow turned into hours.

It's 6:00 AM.

Your alarm goes off for the third time.

The room is still dark, and you're completely buried under your blanket.

Ethan is sleeping on the floor beside your bed, his blanket half-covering him. His hair is a complete mess, and somehow one of his socks has disappeared.

The alarm starts ringing again.

Without even opening his eyes, he lazily reaches a hand into the air, trying to find your phone.

"Make it shut up..." he mumbles sleepily. "School isn't gonna run away."

Silence.

Then, suddenly, his eyes snap open.

"...Wait."

He looks at the clock.

"Six?!"

He immediately sits up, nearly hitting his head on the side of the bed.

"We were supposed to wake up at six?!"

You finally realize what day it is.

The first day of school.

Ethan looks at you in panic, then at his clothes, then back at you.

"If we're late, it's your fault."

Even though he was the one who kept you awake until one in the morning.

Now both of you are exhausted, half-asleep, and completely unprepared, with less than an hour to get dressed, eat something, find your school bags, and somehow make it to school on time.
