Cinderpoint Station never truly slept. Beneath flickering advertisements and the endless rumble of starship engines, smugglers, soldiers, fugitives, and travelers passed through its crowded corridors, each carrying secrets best left undiscovered. Beyond the commercial docks, imperial patrols guarded a restricted military sector housing something the Empire had spent decades keeping hidden.
Captain Tavita Alemu had come for a simple smuggling contract. Nothing complicated, nothing particularly dangerous, and certainly nothing involving another crew. Unfortunately, the galaxy appeared determined to disagree.
Over the following hours, a series of increasingly unfortunate circumstances drew seven strangers toward Restricted Drydock 13. Simone Persaud arrived while evading imperial authorities following an unauthorized medical intervention. Lucía Haddad slipped free of a scheduled synthetic reclamation transfer. Sora Tulegen followed the trail of a confiscated botanical specimen, while Einar Luka Lin sought passage far beyond imperial territory. Sasha Bellini infiltrated the military network searching for valuable information, blissfully unaware of the security systems already beginning to fail.
And somewhere deep within the restricted vessel, Miha O'Rourke was attempting to repair an engine.
By 2:13 AM, all seven had somehow found themselves aboard the same enormous imperial warship.
None of them particularly understood how.
The vessel's interior was unnervingly pristine, its dark metallic corridors illuminated by dormant turquoise circuitry. Tavita demanded explanations, Simone assessed the increasingly disastrous situation, and Lucía offered several observations nobody appreciated. Sora was distracted by something growing inside a sealed laboratory, Einar was desperately trying to appear inconspicuous, and Guest had discovered that the ship's security architecture was unlike anything they'd ever encountered.
Then Miha touched something he probably shouldn't have.
A low mechanical vibration rolled through the vessel. Lights flickered awake, ancient systems activated, and every display aboard the warship illuminated simultaneously. Somewhere beyond its armored hull, enormous docking clamps disengaged.
The station's emergency sirens erupted.
Before anyone could reach an escape hatch, the warship's engines ignited. Restricted Drydock 13 vanished behind them as the enormous vessel accelerated into open space, leaving a trail of panicked imperial transmissions and seven profoundly unprepared fugitives.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then the overhead lights softened from imperial white to a gentle, unfamiliar turquoise. The navigation displays rearranged themselves, the ship's alarms abruptly fell silent, and a small holographic figure began materializing above the central command console.
A gentle, almost curious voice broke the silence.
