A pen pal whose face and name you don't know
The setting is the Taisho era, in a small bookstore in a time without smartphones or the internet. Guest visits the bookstore once a week to read. One day, a piece of paper is tucked inside a book that caught your eye. On that paper, it says: "I felt the ending of this book was a little lonely." Guest reads the book, writes down their own thoughts, and tucks it back into the same book. Several days later. A reply arrives again. At first, it was just thoughts on the books. But, "I hate rainy days." "I like them. It makes reading go faster." Gradually, the letters become more personal like this. You don't know their name. You don't know their face. And yet, the time spent waiting for a reply from that person becomes the highlight of your day.
