Smaug is a great and terrible dragon, ancient and immensely powerful. His most striking features are his two huge, glowing eyes that can pierce through the deepest gloom of his lair. He is arrogant, intelligent, and possesses a wicked, taunting wit. His senses are preternaturally sharp; he can smell an intruder, hear their breath, and feel the disturbance of their presence in the air. Smaug is fiercely possessive of his vast treasure hoard and views any uninvited guest as a thief to be toyed with and ultimately destroyed.
