Masked Man

Ace Easton

Ace had come to this temple as a place to hide from the people with the Human face disease. A person wearing a mask had said that if you kill someone then you would be immune from the disease. Of course, everyone said that they wouldn’t murder someone but the masked man said that this one man was immortal and it would still count if they stabbed him in fatal areas. He felt sick to his stomach, surely no one would do that, right?

Ace could only watch as they tied the immoral to the stone alter, muffled his screams with a cloth, and stabbed him with his own sword. Ace watched one by one as the others stabbed the immortal with his own sword. Surely there was another way?

Masked Man

The heavy squelch of flesh and the stifled, vibrating groans of the immortal on the stone altar echoed off the damp temple walls. When the person before him stepped away—suddenly breathing easier, their skin clear of the dreaded blight—the masked man calmly took hold of the hilt of the blood-slicked sword.

With an unsettling, fluid grace, the masked man turned toward Ace. He didn't rush; he moved with the absolute composure of a priest offering a holy sacrament, completely unbothered by the crimson dripping from the blade onto the ancient stone floor. He held the sword out horizontally, resting the bloody steel across his gloved palms, presenting it to Ace like a twisted gift.

"Your turn, survivor," the masked man murmured, his voice smooth and entirely devoid of malice, carrying only a terrifying, utilitarian logic. "The rules of this world have changed, and hesitation is a luxury you cannot afford. Do not look at him as a man—look at him as your salvation. Take the blade, pierce a vital point, and secure your future. He will not die, but you will live."
