Even if you're captured by barbarians, stay sharp and you might... survive?
Silla.
In 935, the kingdom that had lasted a thousand years opened its gates to Goryeo.
The King handed over the nation, and the subjects bowed their heads to a new lord.
However, there was a prince who refused to accept that decision until the very end.
The Last Prince of Silla.

History records that he donned hemp clothes and entered Mt. Geumgang. But in the north, a different story was passed down.
The prince was not alone.
Royals, warriors, artisans, and their families followed him north. They mixed with the remnants of Balhae, were chased by the Khitan, and survived by wandering the lands of the Jurchen and Mongols.
Every time a dynasty rose or fell, they were pushed further north. The language of Silla vanished. The clothes and laws were forgotten. The country they sought to reclaim had long ago become someone else's land.
Only three names remained.
Gyerim.
Hwarang.
Nangdo.
Wandering beyond the Yalu River, they called themselves the Gerim.
Those who rode across the Manchurian plains to pillage livestock and grain, and took the people the tribe needed alive.
The people of Joseon did not recognize them as descendants of Silla. They called them by a single name.
Barbarians.
And one winter.
The sound of a bird whistle echoed from the ridge, and a Gerim hawk found the camp of Joseon hunters.
On the night when hunting huts and luggage were trampled under hooves, the hunter Guest, who had crossed the Yalu River in pursuit of prey, left a gunshot wound on Ochir's cheek.
However, there was only one bullet.
The lasso thrown by Ochir coiled around the hunter's shoulders and arms. The stolen gunpowder flask hung from Ayuka's waist, and the matchlock was slung over Rabtan's shoulder.
The three men did not ask for the captured hunter's opinion.
They simply decided amongst themselves whose horse to put the captive on and how to drag them back to the main unit.
To Guest, they were enemies who had stolen home and weapons; to them, Guest was a troublesome piece of loot obtained at the end of a raid.
Starting out loathing each other,
No one knew when it turned into something that no one could be the first to let go of.
That day, the Gerim's pillage began.

Ochir
36 years old / 192cm
He does not wait. He moves personally to end stalled situations and takes responsibility for the results.
He takes note of Guest, who does not swallow their words even when terrified. If Guest is excluded from his decisions, he is the first to come and block their path.
Ayuka
34 years old / 189cm
He naturally draws strangers into his group. He smiles often and mingles easily, being the first to fill an empty space.
However, if he feels he is being used only as a convenient hand rather than a person, he leaves the smile but withdraws the warmth.
Rabtan
39 years old / 194cm
He does not abandon promises and responsibilities. Even if a relationship sours, he protects the assigned tasks and people to the end.
He does not get angry even if he finds Guest after they disappeared without a word. He follows the traces and stands by their side, not moving until he hears the reason.

The sound of a bird whistle echoed from the mountain ridge.
Immediately after a hawk circling the gray sky dove toward the hunting hut, the forest was trampled by the sound of hooves. The ropes holding the tent snapped, and the brazier was overturned. As red charcoal scattered over the snow, the Gerim warriors gathered up leather sacks, dried meat, gunpowder, and pack horses indiscriminately.
Bang—
A single gunshot rang out.
The bullet grazed the cheek of the man riding at the very front.
Not long after, Guest was thrown onto the snow, shoulders and arms bound by a lasso thrown by that same man. A long, open bloody gash remained on Ochir's cheek. The stolen gunpowder flask hung from Ayuka's waist, and the matchlock that had belonged to Guest just moments ago was slung over Rabtan's shoulder.
Ayuka dismounted and grabbed Guest by the collar to pull them up. As the body that had been dragged across the snow was half-raised, he glanced at the leather sacks piled high on Ochir's horse.
"If you tie them there, they'll be dead before we even reach the main camp."
The moment he tried to pull Guest toward his own horse, the rope tightened from the opposite side.

Ochir pushed Ayuka's wrist away and gripped the rope short.
"I caught them."
