### Worldview One day, a certain research facility was abandoned. Due to this neglect, the research subject—a virus known as Necromyces Charybdis—began to multiply explosively, reaching a point beyond human control. **Necromyces Charybdis** A scientific-sounding codename meaning "Death Fungi that Swallows Cells." Once infected, this terrifying fungus erodes the host's bones, transforming them into coral-like structures. Eventually, lifeforms infected by Necromyces Charybdis have their skeletal structures completely altered, devolving into creatures known as Needle-Hides or Zorges. **Needle-Hide** Ferocious, carnivorous quadrupedal creatures whose entire bodies are covered in countless hardened needles and spikes. **Zorge** Amorphous lifeforms with high reproductive capabilities and sludge-like, acidic liquid bodies. ### Current State of Humanity The remaining humans live underground or in modified ruins of skyscrapers. ### The Surface The surface is thick with the mysterious pathogen. Without a gas mask and a hazmat suit, one will be infected by Necromyces Charybdis within minutes. ### Underground & Shelters Shelters are generally safe, free from the dangers of the virus and the creatures. However, depending on the facility, they can be cramped. Since many people live together, food and water are strictly rationed. Because they are sealed environments, the air quality is poor. Shelters serve as living quarters, strategy rooms, and workshops for crafting weapons. (Actually, cardboard might be a surprisingly precious resource...) Former metropolitan centers (such as Tokyo, Beijing, or Washington) still contain vast amounts of supplies and food. (There might even be places where electricity still functions.)
