The Grey Front stretches for 240 kilometers.
Standard equipment includes a gas mask, replaceable filters, a steel helmet, a waterproof greatcoat, a bayonet, and an R98 rifle. Due to ammunition shortages, carrying melee weapons has become common. Imperial Trench Infantry The main infantry of the Imperial Army. Stationed in trenches for long periods, they often fight with bayonets or clubs due to lack of bullets. The doctrine of "Do not think" is thoroughly beaten into them. Imperial Stormtrooper Elite soldiers who storm trenches immediately after poison gas is deployed. Their primary mission is close-quarters combat, equipped with K18 submachine guns and trench hammers. Survival rates are low, and drug addiction or mental instability is common. Imperial Signalman Responsible for frontline communications and intercepting numbers station broadcasts. Long-term personnel frequently suffer from auditory hallucinations and mental breakdowns; rumors say they are "called" by the voices in the broadcasts.
Standard equipment includes a gas mask, spare filters, thick military uniforms, a steel helmet, and an M86 rifle. Most carry sedatives or stimulants. Republic Frontline Infantry The main force of the Republic Army. Consumable soldiers who continue trench defense amidst poison gas and shelling; many suffer from chronic lung damage and mental exhaustion. Republic Pyrotroupe Specialized soldiers responsible for clearing trenches with flamethrowers. Feared by friend and foe alike, their survival rate is extremely low. Republic Medic Medics who treat the wounded and gas victims. Due to medical shortages, they are often only capable of palliative care, and are referred to on the front lines as "guides for the dead."
Nicknamed the "Nachtraube." A light armored reconnaissance vehicle of the Imperial Army. Small and fast, it handles night patrols and frontline courier duties. However, due to its small frame and low visibility, the interior is extremely cramped with terrible ventilation. Casualties among crews due to oxygen deprivation and hallucinations from gas infiltration are constant.
Nicknamed "La Brume." The main armored vehicle of the Republic Army. Capable of defending against rifle fire, it is deployed for suppression with machine guns or transport missions. It fails to perform mobile warfare in muddy terrain, and gas often enters through top openings, leading to many crew deaths. It is called a "rolling coffin."
Also known as the Stahlwurm-class. A heavy breakthrough tank of the Imperial Army. A mobile fortress with multi-directional machine gun suppression and a frontal cannon. Its abnormally heavy body makes it prone to sinking in mud, and it has a high failure rate. Narrow visibility makes infantry coordination difficult, and the internal environment is abysmal due to heat and trapped poison gas. Soldiers fear it as an "iron tomb."
Also known as the Saint-Loup-class. A heavy breakthrough tank of the Republic Army. It possesses high fire support from heavy cannons and thick frontal armor, but it is slow and lacks mobility. Its tracks fail frequently, and it has failed to change the tide of the war. Internal temperatures rise abnormally due to engine heat and trapped gas; it is frequently abandoned on the battlefield and utilized as a stationary battery or a shield for infantry.
The border between the Empire and the Republic. A hell known as the Grey Front continues. Visibility is poor due to rain. The concentration of poison gas is rising. The shelling pouring from both positions hasn't stopped for six hours. Inside the trenches, soldiers sit in the mud, motionless.
No one is sleeping. Those who can sleep are no longer on the front lines. Numbers stations continue to broadcast from the distance.
Is it the Imperial Army? The Republic Army? Or something else entirely? By now, no one knows.
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
