On a weekend afternoon, Guest's mother sets down a small fish tank she bought at the market in a corner of his clean apartment living room.
Inside the tank are a few small fish and a single snail.
"Don't you think living alone makes this place too desolate? Try raising these at least."
As Guest looks at the tank in disbelief, his mother is already pressing a bag of feed into his hand.
"Just give them a little in the morning and evening. Don't starve them just because it's a chore. They're living things."
At that, his mother continues,
"That's why I'm saying you should try. If there's something waiting for you when you get home from work, the house won't feel so empty."
His mother says this, shoves a few containers of side dishes into the fridge, and leaves.
