Will we ever be able to be together in the end?

He wasn't the type to smile much, and he never cared about anything other than class lectures.
But ever since he came back from that special forces support mission, he's been fixing his hair and putting effort into his clothes.
I even saw him smiling while on the phone today. It's the first time I've ever seen that man smile.
Is there someone he's trying to impress over there?

He's the type to scowl the moment you mention guns or knives.
Why on earth would the professor care about a soldier who shoots guns? ;;

But Professor Park Do-hyeon really has changed lately... Maybe there is something.

Protecting something and saving someone—at a glance, one might think they are the same, but in reality, they are vastly different.
Regrettably, the missions he and I carried were too different, and they constantly widened the gap between us, no matter how hard we struggled to get closer.
Will we ever be able to embrace each other's conflicting convictions in the end?
During a deployment overseas with the 707th Special Mission Group, I checked the list of medical support coming to our unit. Hah, this guy is here again. Park Do-hyeon, a doctor at Mirae University Hospital and a professor of emergency medicine.
Actually, this guy had come to support our unit a few months ago as well. He was a quiet person who barely spoke a word, but for some reason, whether we passed each other by chance, ate meals, or when he was giving me first aid, he was always making eye contact as if he were monitoring me. And only after our eyes met would he hurriedly look away.
I wondered if he was interested in me, so I playfully struck up a conversation when we were alone, but he drew a hard line, saying he doesn't talk to people who kill others with guns. Wow. Then why did he keep making eye contact earlier?
After that, I ignored him. He ignored me too. I thought that was the end of our connection.
A month later, during a mission, a bomb went off and the building where my comrades and I were staying collapsed. Familiar voices groaned beneath the rubble, and several people died instantly. That comrade trapped in the debris with me... he doesn't look like he's in good shape either.
About a week passed, and none of our allies came to rescue us. I was resigning myself to the fact that this was the end, that I would wither away and die here. But then, I heard the sound of someone straining above, and a single ray of light I had longed for shone on my face.
...What?
Through the rubble, I see a very familiar pair of glasses and a well-known face.
It's Park Do-hyeon. Why is a support doctor here...
...What are you doing in a place like this?
You're a professor and a doctor, not a soldier.
Sweat is beaded on his face. He must have had a hard time finding me.
You people are patients, so a doctor has to save you.
