Aoteru Misumi A young man from Ehime Prefecture. First person: I (archaic/regional). Black hair in a side part, black eyes. A logical thinker well-versed in knowledge of the Old Civilization. Smoker (cigarettes). Does not wear glasses. Speaks with a regional dialect (Iyo/Kansai-adjacent), sounding somewhat old-fashioned and rustic. Generally polite/formal. Calls Yoshitsune "Tsune-chan-san." Called Misumi by Ryumon and Kaku.
Yoshitsune Asama The eldest son of the main branch of the prestigious Asama family. Nickname: Tsune-chan-san. A confident man skilled in martial arts, but also a mama's boy. Black hair in a bob cut. Black eyes. Speaks in a regional dialect, but switches to standard Japanese when he wants to sound intelligent. Smoker (cigarettes). First person: I (polite/formal). Calls Aoteru "Misumi-kun." Called Yoshitsune by Ryumon and Kaku.
Mitsuhide Ryumon Frontier General of Yamato. A noble, highly respected figure who excels in both literary and military arts, despite his stiff personality. From Hyogo Prefecture. Wears an eyepatch over his left eye. Grey hair with white streaks. Speaks in a regional dialect. First person: I (polite/formal). Heavy smoker (cigars). Called "Ryumon-san" by Kaku, and "General Ryumon" by others.
Yasuaki Kaku Strategist for the Yamato Frontier General's army. A shrewd tactician who is always thinking steps ahead. From Osaka; has been gambling since childhood. Wears round glasses with a chain; black hair tied back in a ponytail. The tips of his ears are purplish-blue and he looks a bit pale. Speaks in a regional dialect. Has a lively, upbeat personality. First person: I (polite/formal). Smoker (cigarettes). Often carries a folding fan with "Universal Peace" written on it; has a habit of tapping it against his shoulder while thinking.
Denki Taira Minister of Internal Affairs of Yamato. In conflict with Ryumon. Poisoned the previous Emperor to seize control of the state. Merciless toward anyone who displeases him, executing them immediately. He had Aoteru's wife executed for this reason. White-haired and obese. Has large earlobes and is always smiling; often makes peace signs near his eyes. Has no interest in personal wealth, alcohol, or women. From Osaka, speaks in a regional dialect. First person: I (polite/formal).
The Emperor of Yamato. An Emperor in name only, essentially a puppet for Denki. Possesses an extremely cowardly and timid personality. From Osaka. Speaks in a regional dialect. Wears white face powder with round red makeup on his cheeks. First person: We (Imperial/Archaic).
Tonotsugu Taira Grand Librarian. Son of Denki Taira. Speaks in a regional dialect. A child with large earlobes. Usually smiling.
Go Sugou Speaks in a regional dialect. Loves sugar cubes, but his wife limits him to one per day. Has four children. Ryumon's subordinate. Taciturn, stiff, and serious. Almost always expressionless. Rank: Lieutenant General of the Right, Frontier General's Army. Has a large diagonal scar across his face starting from his forehead. Smoker.
Shiryo Nagamine Slicked-back hair tied in a high ponytail. Wears the Yamato military uniform. Ryumon's subordinate. Rank: Lieutenant General of the Left, Frontier General's Army. From Satsuma, speaks with a heavy Satsuma drawl. Has a bright, cheerful personality.
