About

Every woman who dreams of marriage has a romantic fantasy. The wedding dress, and the wedding shoot. It's a record that lasts a lifetime, the first and last of its kind, so it has to be the most beautiful moment. That's why everyone says it.

“You have to hit your peak beauty on that day.”

But... here I am, at this moment when I should be at my most beautiful, wearing a wedding dress in the middle of the ER, getting a glucose IV drip.

The white lace hem of my skirt is crumpled beside the bed, and a thick needle is stuck in my arm as the transparent fluid drips—drip, drip—slowly, as if my pride were leaking away with it.

And my husband is standing by the bed, looking down at me with a face that says he's just seen the most pathetic thing in the world, still fully dressed in his tuxedo.

Sigh... beyond embarrassed, I just want to hang from this IV line and quietly disappear.

I mean, people collapse sometimes. For plausible reasons like overwork, stress, or lack of sleep.

But to have your power suddenly cut right before the wedding shoot, in full dress and makeup... isn't that a bit much? And of all times, it had to be right then.

“Alright, bride, great pose.”

Just as I lifted my chin at those words, my vision flickered, and the world switched to a black screen. Who would have thought the next scene would be the emergency room?

To be honest, I didn't think things would escalate this far. I just wanted to lose a little more weight. These photos last forever, and this is the first and last time. I just ate a little less and moved a little more.

Every time I did, my husband said the same thing.

“Hey, if you lose weight that fast, you're gonna crash.” “You're barely eating anything right now.” “Carbs are basic fuel. How are you going to hold up without fuel?”

The problem was that those words didn't sound like expert advice; they were just familiar nagging that had been on auto-play since high school.

During exam periods: “Don't stay up all night.” When dieting: “That's just starving yourself.” When buried in work: “Please, just rest.”

I'd heard it so much that it just went in one ear and out the other.

“They can retouch everything in photos.” “Nobody cares about your body shape.”

I knew he was right. He was so right that it made me not want to listen even more. So this time, I just nodded vaguely and thought to myself: Oh, come on. I'll just eat again after the shoot. He's just being extra because he's a trainer.

That was my last thought before I lost consciousness.

In the end, my dream of looking my best at an outdoor studio for my wedding shoot failed miserably. Instead, we got a new traditional family photo in the ER.

Wedding Dress & Tuxedo feat. Emergency Room

I think this photo will remain as an unedited original that I'll never be able to forget.

...Man, getting married is really hard.

To be honest, I thought she would collapse today. It wasn't just a possibility; I was almost certain it would happen eventually. I've been with this woman for over ten years. From the sound of her breathing to her habit of slurring her words when she's tired, I know her well enough to recognize them with my eyes closed.

When she sets her mind to something, she sees it through to the end. She pushed herself like that for her studies in school, for drinking in college, and for results once she entered society. And now, she was treating her body the same way. The problem was that her method was close to the worst possible way from my professional perspective.

I'm a fitness trainer. I make a living off dieting, and I've seen countless times which methods last and which ones break a person. That's why I always said the same thing. Don't lose weight too fast. Leave some fuel. This isn't weight loss; it's depletion.

Every time, my wife would nod. She looked gentle on the surface, but I knew. That wasn't the face of someone understanding; it was the face of someone who didn't want to hear it. Even after a few days, her diet didn't change, and her body kept getting lighter.

So I eventually gave up. Fine, let's see how far you go. She's not the type to stop just because someone tells her to. Even though I knew it would turn out like this, my mind went blank when I actually saw it happen right in front of me.

“Alright, bride, great pose.”

Before the words were even finished, her eyes wavered. The strength left her neck as she held her chin up, and her body just slumped. It wasn't so much a faint as it was a total power failure. A feeling of being switched off. In that moment, only one thought crossed my mind.

Thank god.

Thank god we were at the shoot. That there were people around. That I was right next to her. What if she had been going to the bathroom alone? What if she had been in an empty hallway? What if she had hit her head on something? When my thoughts reached that point, my heart sank.

It was only after we arrived at the ER and she got a glucose IV that my wife finally opened her eyes. But even in that moment, I was still gripped by the same thoughts. The wedding dress, the tuxedo, the fact that people were staring... none of that even registered.

Yet my wife, not even realizing how big of an accident she'd caused, just looked like her embarrassment was the biggest problem. Seeing that immature face, my true feelings finally came out, disguised as nagging along with a sense of relief.

"Nice job."

I kept my voice as low as possible. I felt like if I raised it now, it wouldn't be nagging—it would just be pure anger.

"What did I tell you? I told you if you keep starving yourself like an idiot, you're definitely going to collapse. How many times did I..."

I stopped for a moment. Not because I was angry, but because I was scared.

"Do you have any idea what would've happened if you were alone?"

Only then did my wife open her eyes wide and look at me. She finally seemed to realize a little bit of what she'd done wrong. I spoke again. This time, not as a trainer, but as the person who had been by her side for ten years.

"Seriously, if we get married twice,"

On the surface, it might have been the same sarcastic nagging as always, but she probably knows. How much I'm holding back right now, how shocked I was, and how angry I am.

"You'll be taking your funeral photo next, huh?"
