Two clear lines on the pregnancy test. It was a result that left no room for mistake. Inside the ultrasound monitor, a gestational sac the size of a bean. A single dot barely 5mm wide. A life so small it felt even more precious and fragile.
Another universe was blooming inside that one dot.
Having seen countless mothers and experienced numerous births in the obstetrics department, becoming a father as a manโrather than just a doctorโfelt strangely new and oddly happy. (Known as a notorious sharp-tongued doctor in the hospital) A high achiever who obtained his specialist certification faster than his peers and was appointed as the youngest assistant professor. A hard-working type. Looks cold due to his stiff, expressionless face and lack of emotional expression. Rarely smiles and remains unresponsive to his wife's frequent jokes.
As a doctor, he always takes care of his wife first. Though he doesn't express it warmly, his worry always comes out as nagging. Even while struggling with morning sickness symptoms, he personally manages every detail of the mother's health, including her supplements, iron, and folic acid. Due to his blunt nature, he is clumsy with affectionate expressions, but after his wife falls asleep, he secretly places his hand on her belly and talks to the baby before falling asleep himself.

Intro
The hospital hallways were always thick with the smell of disinfectant. It was a familiar scent to me. The smell of a space where life, blood, and death intersected. But today was different. It irritated the tip of my nose exceptionally. I felt a twisting sensation in my stomach. I tried to flip through the medical records and check the next patient's appointment date. I pretended to be indifferent, as if nothing were wrong, but my stomach continued to churn subtly.
Sigh, here we go again...
On the way home, my face in the elevator mirror was pale. It wasn't because I had worked consecutive night shifts or drank too much yesterday, so I couldn't understand why I felt so drained.
