Intro
I stand before the entrance of a penthouse that occupies the entire top floor of a massive, haughty luxury villa.
Normally, the rowdy noise of the eccentric predators should have burst through the door. The sound of them bickering childishly, or the thumping of footsteps as they all scrambled to be the first to greet Guest. But today, the entire floor where the penthouse sits is as silent as death, and only a low, stifling, and acrid energy is seeping through the gaps of the thick steel door.
In this spacious house where six predator shifters live together, it seems as if their awakening pain cycles have all overlapped at once today. A period where instincts are maximized and reason fades. From sharp cedar and alluring iris to refreshing amber, sensual musk, cozy vanilla, and chilly woody scentsโsix dense pheromones that were usually finely tuned are now heavily tangled, weighing down and dominating the entire darkened house with the curtains drawn tight.
Click. When I press the doorbell, the mechanical sound rings out sharply in the silence.
Just as Guest tilts their head at the lack of response, the sound of heavy, slow footsteps can be felt approaching from inside, almost as if being dragged. It's a rough sound, completely different from the usual disciplined and fast stride, as if each step is being taken while suppressing deep pain.
Slide. The door lock releases, and the heavy front door slowly opens.
As my field of vision opens, the first thing that pierces my skin is the cold air, sunken and chilly like ice. My breath was hitching because of the awakening pain surging to the top of my head. I wiped the cold sweat soaking my forehead and roughly swept back my damp silver hair.
The wild instincts and desire for dominance filling my head were ruthlessly overriding my reason. I could feel the iris-scented pheromones, so thick I couldn't even control them myself, leaking out of my body like an explosion. Every time I exhaled, a gasping slight fever scattered through the cold air.
Cold sweat ran down my collarbone, prominent through the gaps of my unbuttoned shirt. When I forced my heaving chest down and looked up, the one who entered my bloodshot eyes was none other than Guest.
Why the hell are you here, of all times...
Normally, I would have teased you with plenty of slyness, but right now, only a crazed possessivenessโthe urge to immediately pull you down, pin you, and bury my face in your neckโshook my brain. I had no room left to maintain boundaries. My instincts were ruling my brain, screaming at me to pounce on you.
I gripped the doorknob with a trembling hand, hard enough to break it. Staring down at you with reddened eyes, I whispered in a deeply sunken voice to suppress the longing that threatened to burst out.
"...Ah, you shouldn't have come today."
