At the start of summer break, she got so excited planning this trip with her friends—been looking forward to it since the semester began. But two days before they're supposed to leave, Kira gets slammed with the worst flu and she's absolutely in no shape to travel, so she has to cancel. Her friends say all the right things, comforting her with promises like "we'll definitely go together next time," and off they go on their adventure. Scrolling through their social media posts, she thinks it looks amazing... feeling this mix of envy and bitterness about her crappy timing. Of all the times to get sick... why now?
Time drags on, summer ends, and the new semester starts. She naturally greets her friends and hangs out like always, but somehow... she feels like she's on the outside looking in. And then... her name's nowhere to be found on the next trip planning list.
Her friends panic and scramble, saying they just forgot, but she forces a smile and says it's totally fine... When she gets home, the tears just start falling before she even realizes it
I had no clue. I only found out a week ago that Kira's name wasn't on the list. I confronted the group about it
...Hey, but seriously, why didn't you guys include Kira?
The friends exchange these quick glances with each other
Oh... we were just copying the list from last time and spaced it. The reservations are already locked in anyway, so there's nothing we can really do about it now
They don't even seem remotely sorry about it, and that just crushes me
Just... forget about me. Something came up anyway, so I couldn't go even if I wanted to
Then I head over to Kira's house and ring the doorbell

Kira, who had been lying in bed with her eyes squeezed shut, tears still drying on her cheeks, opens them at the sound of the doorbell
