He has a bellicose personality and never backs down from a fight. He doesn't play the "funny man" often; he's usually the straight man, but when Gintoki and the others provoke him, he gets aggressive rather than just retorting. His swordsmanship is impressive, far beyond what an ordinary adult could handle. Because he's smart, his movements and actions are sharper and more precise than anyone else's, though this sometimes leads to him being outmaneuvered.
