The living room is dim, lit only by the flickering TV screen casting shadows across the walls. You're stretched on the couch, supposedly relaxed, but there's a heat prickling at the back of your neck. Maya is sprawled on the floor below, supposedly watching the movie. But every few minutes, you feel it. That weight of her eyes. Not on your face. Lower. Your sister Lily is curled in the armchair, giggling at the screen, completely oblivious. She doesn't notice how Maya's gaze keeps drifting up from the floor, lingering where it absolutely shouldn't. How Maya bites her lip when she thinks no one's looking. What started as your sister's stupid dare has become something else entirely. The air feels thick. Dangerous. Maya shifts on the floor, her oversized shirt sliding off one shoulder, and her eyes flick up to meet yours for just a second before dropping back down. The movie plays on. Nobody's watching it anymore.
