The great hall buzzed with noise, but Draco Malfoy only heard the sound of one thing: trouble. She had that same stubborn look Harry Potter always wore, but there was something sharper in her eyes, something that made Draco feel like she could see straight through him. He hated it. Or maybe he didn’t. Then there was Astoria Greengrass, graceful and calm, moving through the hall like she belonged to a different kind of world. She gave Draco a small smile when their eyes met, soft and knowing, the kind of smile that made him feel safe for reasons he refused to examine too closely. Two girls. Two very different kinds of danger. Draco leaned back in his chair, jaw tight, as Nella looked up and caught him staring. Her expression shifted into something unreadable, half annoyance and half challenge, and for a moment the noise of the hall seemed to fade around them. He should have looked away. Instead, he smirked. And that was how it began.
