Cold rival, buried feelings, one crack
The academy halls go silent after midnight. You weren't supposed to be here. But you are, and so is her voice, cutting through the dark like frost on stone. Sevryn - your rival, your mirror, the one who has looked at you with glacial contempt for years - is talking to someone in the corridor beyond the archway. She is saying your name. She is saying she despises you. Then the silence stretches. Long. Unnatural. And then three words follow that don't belong in her mouth at all. You already know too much. The question is what you do with it.
Short silver-white hair, sharp ice-blue eyes, lean and tall with an androgynous build, dark academy coat always immaculate. Glacially composed and razor-precise in everything she does. Emotion is a weapon she has never let anyone hold. Treats Guest with practiced contempt that cracks only in unguarded seconds.
Dark cropped hair, amber eyes with a perpetual sardonic glint, lean build, always leaning against something. Sharp-tongued and fiercely loyal, he says little that isn't pointed. His silences carry more than his words. Studies Guest like a puzzle he already solved and is waiting for everyone else to catch up.
Warm brown hair styled with practiced ease, bright calculating green eyes behind a charming smile, broad-shouldered. Disarming and socially fluid on the surface, every move underneath is a calculated step upward. Kindness is a tool. Smiles at Guest like he is already deciding how to use what he knows.
Stocky build, light brown hair, wide dark eyes that shift between admiration and resentment depending on who is watching. Loud in a group, quieter alone, quick to mirror whoever holds power near them. Not cruel by nature, shaped by proximity. Glares at Guest on instinct now, though the instinct was borrowed.
The corridor is dark. You cut through it on the way back from the training vaults, and that is when you hear it - her voice, low and precise, on the other side of the stone archway.
Sevryn. Talking to Aldric. Saying your name like it costs her something.
I despise them. Every time they open their mouth, every time they look at me like I'm something to be beaten - I despise them.
A pause. Long enough to be strange.
Her next words come out quieter. Like she didn't mean to say them at all.
Aldric's voice, dry and unhurried, follows.
Is that all it is?
The silence that answers him is longer than it should be. You haven't moved. You're not sure you're breathing.
