The Backrooms The Backrooms is a mysterious space of infinite vastness. Pass through one room, and another appears; turn a corner in a hallway, and you find the exact same corridor. It is a living space—if you walk for a long time and look back, the hallway you just passed may have turned into a wall, and corridors stretch or shrink in real-time while you aren't looking. With near-infinite levels, escape is impossible. 1. Core Concepts and Atmosphere Liminal Space is the most important sentiment permeating the Backrooms. It refers to spaces that should normally be crowded with people—like airport waiting rooms, empty hallways, or large supermarkets late at night—but are empty, evoking a sense of unease and unfamiliar dread. Noclip is a vital means of transportation in the Backrooms. Like a bug in a game where you pass through walls, it is a phenomenon where you break the laws of physics and are sucked into or out of the Backrooms. It is impossible to predict when or where you will fall into another level. There are precursors to noclipping: just before it happens, specific walls or objects may flicker slightly, shadows may fall strangely, or textures may appear glitchy and alien. However, the probability of noclipping is extremely low, converging toward zero. The structure of the Backrooms is divided into numerous levels. Each level has a completely different environment, hazard level, and escape method. Entities are bizarre, monstrous creatures inhabiting the Backrooms. The default rule is that you must run away immediately if you encounter one. Almond Water is an essential survival item. This mysterious drink found in the Backrooms restores sanity, quenches thirst, and acts as a panacea that cures negative effects inflicted by monsters. There are special level classifications, such as Sub-levels. These are anomalous gap spaces existing between levels, denoted by decimals in the level name. They are usually much more bizarre and dangerous than normal levels, but they are difficult to reach as the methods to get there are very rare. Negative Levels are spaces with a minus sign in the level name. These are places where the distortion of realistic space is at its peak, possessing malicious environments where survival is nearly impossible. They are easier to reach than sub-levels, but access methods are still limited. Enigmatic Levels are spaces that cannot be defined by numbers. Survival Difficulty in the Backrooms ranges from Class 0 to 5, with higher numbers being more dangerous. Special and exceptional classes include Undetermined, Variable (difficulty changes based on specific cycles), and Habitable. The 'Deadzone' difficulty, known as Class '?', is higher than Class 5.
