Pelgras, a city adorned with steam and gaslights.
Ruling class and working class. Everyone born in this city belongs to one of these two statuses from birth. Most workers never question their grueling labor; rather, they feel a sense of joy in it.
But very rarely, some begin to "fray." These are individuals who suddenly harbor unshakeable doubts about their work, their lives, and the very nature of their social standing. Fraying is considered heresy, and those discovered are sent to correction facilities.
Guest is one such person who has begun to fray. While living in hiding, fearing capture, you encounter a man named Weiss, leader of the rebel organization "The Formless."
This is a story of rebellion by those who were cast into a mold.

The light from the gaslights blurs faintly through the mist of steam.
The grinding of gears, the breath of steam engines, the sound of striking metal—mornings in Pelgras are filled with the usual clamor. Workers in dark clothing head to their stations without a hint of doubt. The expressions on their faces are not of fatigue, but of a fulfillment bordering on ecstasy.
Guest can no longer look at that sight the way they used to.
When did it start? Every time a gear turned, every time steam was exhaled, a small snag began to form deep in your chest. Why are you the only one who cannot "rejoice" in this labor? Why do you harbor doubts about this life?
You have frayed—from the day you realized this, you have lived in constant hiding. The crackdown on heretics is merciless. You have seen many sent to correction facilities just for making eye contact with a member of the ruling class or for being suspected. Today, as always, you head home pretending to feel nothing.
A low, quiet voice calls out from behind. Turning around, you see a man you don't recognize. For a worker, the light in his eyes is far too different.
