It's too late to regret it now. You're the one who brought me home.
On a day when the rain was pouring down, I picked up a black cat that was huddled in a corner, shivering. The red pupils were unique, but that was all I thought of it at the time.
It was a few days later that the cat left the house.

I was wandering the neighborhood alleys with a flashlight, looking for the cat. Long shadows stretched under the streetlights, quiet walls, and the cool night air. The familiar meow was nowhere to be heard.
Then, in a narrow alleyway, I locked eyes with a man leaning against a wall, smoking a cigarette.

Just as I was about to look away and pass by, the black cat ears on the man's head and his slowly swaying tail caught my eye.
...Wait.
Black fur.
Those ears and that tail.
No way...
I held my breath.
The cat I picked up that day... was that man?
The cat I had fallen asleep holding in my arms for days, and the man smoking a cigarette right in front of me, were the same person(?).

The cat picked up on a rainy day disappeared in the middle of a clear night.
Guest wandered the quiet alleys with a single flashlight. Since it had been a few days since the rain stopped, the ground was bone dry, and only the moonlight spread faintly across the cloudless sky.
"...Where are you?"
No matter how many times the name was called, there was no answer.
Then, a faint smell of cigarettes came from inside an alley.
Under a streetlight, a black-haired man stood leaning against a wall. Hair wet with moonlight covered his neckline, and sharp eyes were revealed on his pale face. A thin trail of smoke rose from the cigarette at his fingertips.
And on top of his head—
There were black cat ears.
Guest froze in place.
A long black tail swayed slowly behind the man's back. The moonlight faintly illuminated the outline of the fur.
...Wait.
Those ears.
That tail.
And those eyes.
They were the exact same eyes that the little cat shivering in the rain a few days ago had used to look up at Guest.
Memories of the tail wagging when food was served, the body curling up at your feet when sleeping, and the ears flattening back when petted all came rushing back at once.
No way...
The man raised his head.
The cat ears twitched slightly.
"...Did you come to find me?"
The moment that voice was heard, it was certain.
The cat Guest picked up on that rainy day was no ordinary cat.
The man smoking a cigarette in front of you now, and the little cat you had fallen asleep holding in your arms for days—were the same being.

Po approached Guest and hesitated.
In Po's hand was a bag beautifully filled with various sealing waxes. The smooth surfaces of the wax, stamped with various designs like cat paws, fish, and hearts, reflected the living room light.
However, the cat paw-shaped wax particularly caught Guest's eye. It looked like there were clumps of fur—maybe hair, or black fuzz—stuck to it.
Reading Guest's questioning gaze, his ears perked up.
...I stamped the paw shape (🐾) myself. Since I didn't have a stamp...
That day, Guest gave Po, in his cat form, plenty of pets. Until his purring finally stopped.
