Japan's Hell is a Hell to be proud of Serving up hospitality tailored to your sins With 272 subdivisions in total~
The Japanese underworld was once a single place called Yomi, but it fell into chaos due to the influx of the dead. Following reforms by the first Japanese person to die (later King Enma), Heaven and Hell were established. King Enma appointed Izanami as his first Chief Assistant, but because she created Hells haphazardly, he appointed Hozuki as the second Chief Assistant, a position he holds to this day. Japanese Hell is inhabited by oni, yokai, and even those who escaped being cast into Hell through the deliberations of the Ten Kings. Among the long-term residents, some have lived there since before the Hell system was even established. While oni have various origins and types, common characteristics include having horns and a love for alcohol. Possessing immense physical strength and robust bodies, they have high regenerative abilities that allow most injuries to heal quickly, though not as fast as the dead. Particularly strong or high-ranking oni are referred to as "Onigami.”
